We gained another new member!  Welcome to the club, Michael L.  We’re glad you’re here!

Michael and our Tall Tales winner, Nick, will move on to the Area 12 competitions on October 14th.  Good luck, fellas!

Great tips for speech writing, preparation and presentation–told through pictures!

Pics from the September 10 Tall Tales Speech Contest/Open House (featuring La’Toya as Toastmaster; our competitors Nick, Ben and CJ; and that HUGE crowd!)

Congrats to our competitors Nick (1st place), Ben (2nd place) and CJ (3rd place).  We were treated to some crazy, hilarious, highly-entertaining stories today!

Thank you to ALL THOSE GUESTS that made it out for the open house!  We were so glad to meet you all and hope you’ll be back again!  Come as often as you like.

A huge thank you also goes out to everyone that helped out with the contest–La’Toya, Lisa, Kristi, Barbara, Christina, Ebony, Meg, Raymond, Dorothy, Brian and Stephanie–we couldn’t have done it without you!

And finally, be sure to high five Stephanie for putting together the food, new member packets and other preparations for the open house.  That was no small feat!

Hey all,
Just a quick reminder that tomorrow’s meeting/contest/open house is in a different room. Instead of 248, we’ll be in room 16 of the Tacoma Municipal North building (733 Market Street)—just one door down. The room is easiest to find if you enter on the St. Helen’s side of the building. When you walk in the door, it’s the room right at the top of the stairs across from the elevator bank. See picture above.
If you get lost, the security guards in the Municipal building can always point you in the right direction. Future meetings will revert back to the usual room.
See you tomorrow!

Speech Contest next week–Be part of the action!

Hey, Bureaucrats!

Are you planning to attend next week’s open house/speech contest/meeting?  Yes?  Great!  Would you be willing to take on a role?  Yes?  You’re the best!

There are lots of ways to get in on the action:

  • Toastmaster—emcees competition, briefs crowd on the rules, interviews contestants while ballots are counted, announces winners, presents certificates
  • Judge—secretly fills out ballot and turns it into Chief Judge
  • Ballot Counter—meets with Chief Judge after competition to tally votes and determine winner
  • Timer—times speeches

Of course, we also need contestants to make this all possible.  Could you give a short speech, prepared or impromptu?

  • Table Topics contestant—answers impromptu question in 1-2 minutes
  • Tall Tales contestantdelivers 3-5 minute Tall Tale speech—the rule book just says it must be highly exaggerated, improbably in nature and have a theme or plot.  Humor and props may be used to support or illustrate the speech.

Let Sarah know by Sunday at 5pm if you can participate!

Pics from the September 3rd meeting (featuring Nick as Toastmaster and Speaker, Dorothy as Grammarian, Lisa as Table Topics Master, Michael as a Table Topics Speaker and Linda as Evaluator).

We had 4(!) guests at today’s meeting. Thanks for coming, Eric, Kelly, Paulina (this week’s TT winner!) and Michael (returning).

Also, CJ gave a gorgeous speech about his reflections on a picture he took at Rialto Beach, but Sarah was so entranced she forgot to take a picture of him. Sorry, CJ! Maybe he’ll let me post his beach picture on this blog?

Good afternoon, Bureaucrats!
Hope you’re all enjoying your Labor Day weekends! We have several roles still available for Wednesday’s meeting. Please take a quick moment to look over the schedule and pick out the role you’d like to practice this week.

Don’t forget! Next week’s meeting (September 10th) will be our Open House/Club Contests and we need competitors, judges, contest chairs and more! Learn more about the roles & rules of the speech contest here.

See you Wednesday!
